Brent Swanson’s Collaboration
I am very excited to announce the collaboration is ready to show off. Brent has done an amazing job with the images we shot together on location. It is truly an honor to do these collaborations. The next words will be Brent’s to describe where /why/how he approached the collaboration:
The Concept: Hip to be Square
As I’ve grown in age and experience, I’ve become very aware of the passing of time as it applies to fashion and technology. Growing up, we had one of the first VCRs on the market and I wore very thick glasses + corduroy overalls. In high school, I worked on the newspaper using Adobe PageMaker while wearing acid washed jeans and a mullet. In college, I learned how to work a stat camera + make printing plates while sporting a pony tail and all black clothes. I have witnessed the growth of the internet into the powerful medium it is today while trying not to embarrass myself with my wardrobe. In other words, I’ve become the old guy – but hopefully not one that is out of touch with the times.
So the starting idea for our collaborative photo shoot was to have the subject be a person from a previous generation who was dressed well and using the latest communications technology. The underlying concept was to show that the innovative tech of today can be used by anyone, especially when they look good. There will always be something new coming down the pipe. And those of us who are sensitive to it will stay competitive and current.
Working with Shawn to achieve this vision enabled it to grow organically. The end result is that the photos have been formated as signage and backlit graphics for a store called “HIP.” Their audience is aimed at providing fashionable clothes + gear to those of us who are a bit older, but aren’t yet ready to admit to it.
It was a great bit of fancy and fun!
